Ready to Fly!
Okay, so we are here. I created this blog to share my humble but daring life as a late-started filmmaker after working (AKA getting stuck) in the American healthcare industry for many years.
When I think back, I want to thank my former boss at the last job, who refused to recognize my hard work, skills, and experience, and saw me just as a number for his corporate money making strategy. I said F*** it and submitted my resignation without a new job. (I’ve done it many times, but now, at higher risks with my older age…). I plotted to start a small business instead of looking for another job. My small business ideas went wild from starting a mobile ramen shop to a book cafe, and more, but none seemed realistic or would give me enough freedom and time for my life-long passion, writing. I was working on my short film script, intending to produce it myself. So I thought, hey, might as well, I create a film production company! This was December 2024.
My accountant/financial advisor/good friend happened to have produced a documentary film about Korean American History in Portland. So, he seemed more excited about my project than I was when I visited him and walked me through the process. I was going to wait until later, but he wrapped up everything for me very quickly. The final confirmation email he sent me said: “Yuriko, you are ready to fly!” The same day, I went to a bank and opened up a business account. I was indeed out of the nest!
